Connections In The Community

Working Together To Make A Difference In The Community!

Shepherds Cove Woman's Community Center Mural

March 2024, we were asked to help beautify the Prince George’s Chapter Jack & Jill of America’s recreational space at Shepherd’s Cove Shelter in Capitol Heights. The challenge for this project was the 3-day timeframe, requiring us to workday and night. With the support of a few volunteers and a simple yet inspiring design that fulfilled their theme, “Let’s Work, Let’s Play, Let’s Live Together,” we were able to deliver... on time!

Tanglewood Community Park Mural

In 2023, we were commissioned to design and install a 94’ x 50’ basketball court mural at Tanglewood Park in Clinton, MD. We were asked by The Neighborhood Design Group to partner with them, The Wills Group, PG Parks & Recreation, and Tanglewood community members to create a masterpiece.

A&K Family Learning Center Murals

In 2022, we created 3 murals for A & K Family Learning Center; located in the Bowie Town Center in Bowie, MD. You will see the 15’x12’ mural, a 6’x12’ mural, and a floor-to-ceiling mural. Our style of ‘posterizing’ our subjects has become very popular and admired.

Children's National Medical Center
Tile Project

MTC Art Studios, Inc. places a high priority on giving back to the community. One of the ways we do this is to accept commissions from entities in our community who desire to use Art as a tool to better its environment. “Art for Healing” was a campaign initiated by CNMC (Children’s National Medical Center/ NW Washington, DC) to bring comfort to the traumatized patients that visit the 36 emergency rooms in their hospital. They believe that if the patients were made to turn their attention to positive thoughts during such trying time they would have better results during/after surgery. Our creations are painted on the ceiling tiles of every emergency room in the hospital to comfort and to distract the children from the fears that accompanies injury and illness. We, too, believe that such artistic works can make a positive difference; fore art can be ‘medicine to the soul’. Our young artists take great satisfaction in giving of themselves to help bring healing to others. These are only a few of the 45 paintings displayed in two hospital local locations; Children’s Hospital/ NW Washington, DC and United Medical Center/SE Washington, DC. We proudly present to you – ART FOR HEALING. May it also bring you healing to some extent. Enjoy!

Frederick Douglass Mural

In 2010, the director of the Frederick Douglass Recreation Center (Southeast Washington, DC), Wanda Flibbond, asked MTC to create a mural in their neighborhood. Her reason was that the neighborhood had forgotten their foundation of pride that stemmed from civil rights activist Frederick Douglass' commitment to fight for the rights of black people having equality in all areas of life. She said that the children saw way too much violence and when asked, they did not even know who Frederick Douglass was!... even though the center sits right across from the landmark, the Frederick Douglass House. So we researched his plight, developed a design for the mural that mapped out his journey, and began the work. Before long, the community children joined our efforts and helped complete the mural. This project restored some of the pride to the community through knowledge of their past. We hope that it was the beginning of something more.
